Howdy Partner! The Role of Application Developers in IT Security

Howdy Partner!

Hey everyone!  Starting this month I’m going to be writing a monthly article for IBM Systems Magazine’s EXTRA online newsletter.

Check out the March installment — Howdy, Partner! The Role of Application Developers in IT Security — for a look at how admins and developers can collaborate to improve security AND make it easier to manage.

This is a companion article to my recent blog post, Access Control: What Most Developers Don’t Know Can Compromise Security, where I point out that the authority that’s checked at the time a program attempts to access data is the authority of the job, not the person or entity that started the job. Developers and, to a lesser extent, administrators have several tools they can use to ensure a job has the necessary authority.

But back to EXTRA. EXTRA is emailed twice a month and comes in two flavors, IBM i and AIX. My articles will appear in one flavor or the other or both — depending on the content of the article.  Information security will be the primary topic.  Some will be platform neutral and some may be more specific to the IBM i or AIX operating systems.

For those of you not already subscribed to the EXTRA online newsletter, you’ll be able to read those articles through links available in the Botz Bytes newsletter and here on my blog.
